Kinja'd!!!

Saw one of those at the Canepa Museum when we visited in December (very cool place, highly recommend if you’re ever in NorCal) and it was funny trying to explain the car to my non-car-people family. You don’t realize just how odd some designs seem until an outsider is like ‘wtf is this, dude.’

P34 is one one my favorite race cars but so far I haven’t been able to see one.

I’ll like other weird race cars too. How about really weird asymmetric race cars?

Asymmetric racer built by Carlo Molino. It took part in the (infamous) 1955 Le Mans 24h race.

Here’s Super Modified by Kenny Reece. It was never raced as it was outlawed in the rules before it was finished.

All of the above?

I’m sure. Looked weird as hell to me when I first saw it pop up in old F1 videos, but least I understand the whole grip and aero equation they're working with. I can't imagine how weird it is for someone who doesn't think like that.

That’s definitely, um... “super” modified. Bonus if there's only 2 tires on the left side, cause turn left, yo

There’s actually only one in the left. The sole left one and middle one in the right are the driving ones so there’s no steering wheels in the left.

Since skirts were banned and the FIA required a minimum 6 cm height for the sidepod edges, Lotus basically set up their body panels to compress under load onto the track. What I don’t understand about it is how Colin Chapman thought that it was legal. Even long after it no longer mattered, he continued to insist that the car was legal.

I think he was pedantically interpreting the phrasing of the rule than the obvious intent of it. still think its an obvious violation of the movable bodywork rules. i think by the 1980’s he may have just been crazy.
